Most frequent questions and answers

A. Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization with a mission to improve communication and leadership skills.

A. At Woodford Green Speakers club, you will learn how to:

– Speak comfortably in public
– Be a great listener
– Comfortably give and receive constructive evaluations
– Inspire others and be more persuasive
– Organise, facilitate and lead meetings

A. Definitely! There is no obligation to join and all meetings are open to the general public.

A. As a guest:

  • You will receive a warm welcome.
  • You will be introduced to club members.
  • You will be given a copy of the agenda for the meeting so you will be able to follow along.
  • You will receive a guest pack that provides information about Woodford Green Speakers Club.

The meeting is split into two sessions, with the first session comprising speeches and evaluations; followed by a second session of impromptu speaking called “Table Topics.”

As a guest you do not have to speak at the Table Topics session, but we would encourage you to do so; if you are asked to participate.

At the end of the evening you will be offered the chance to voice your comments about your experience at Woodford Green Speakers club, but you do not have to speak.

A. The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:45pm for a 7:15pm start Please see our Club Calendar for the next meeting date.

A. Come as often as you want! We understand life can get busy and things can get in the way. When you are ready, we will be there to help as needed.

A. Certainly not! There’s loads of help and support available within the club.

We have a mentoring program where you can ask another member, or request that a member be assigned to you, to function as a mentor to help you with your progress in Toastmasters.

A. You can sign up in advance for a speaking role or a meeting role. The Vice President of Education, in combination with the Toastmaster and members of the club, ensures that a member is assigned a role in each meeting that they attend.
